Role: Health & Safety Lead
Contract Length: anticipated 3 months, with potential to be extended for the right candidate.
Location: Gillingham, Kent. Flexible working may be available TBC.
Our client is within the public sector and they are looking to hire a Health & Safety Lead, reporting to the Head of Health and Safety. This role forms part of the Health & Safety Team, supporting the delivery of the organisation's quality strategy and vision to deliver safe, effective and high quality services.
As the Health & Safety Lead you will have at least five years’ experience working in a similar role and a background of promoting a culture of safety awareness amongst staff across a large public sector organisation. You will be able to organise health and safety campaigns with experience of working in collaboration with the Communication department to raise the profile of quality, health and safety improvement.
As the Health & Safety Lead, you will be responsible for the day to day management of the health & safety team in the delivery of effective organisational wide systems and processes to effectively gather and act upon health & safety information, in line with current Government Legislation, Regulations, Policy Guidance and good practice.
We are looking for a Health & Safety Lead with ideally membership of the Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH) at Graduate Level (GradIOSH) Management / Leadership qualification and/or Quality Improvement Qualification is desirable.
As the Health & Safety Lead you will have the following responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Health & Safety in the development of the Health & Safety Programme of Work/Plan in meeting legislative requirements, national policy and best practice across the organisation
- Support the Head of Health and Safety to promote a culture of safety awareness amongst staff across the organisation and organise health and safety campaigns.
- Work in collaboration with the Communication department to raise the profile of quality, health and safety improvement
- Guide and support improvement project plans and progress by providing expertise on improvement approaches
- Support the Head of Health & Safety in the development and delivery of an organisational wide Health & Safety training and development programme which provides staff with the techniques, skills and knowledge to competently deliver safe, effective and high quality services and effectively investigate incidents, that ensure the people who use our services, their families, carers and visitors and staff receive a positive experience.
- Represent the organisation to external audiences and stakeholders, whilst influencing wider national, regional and local policies, initiatives and developments.
- Establish links and excellent working relationships with external agencies, partners and organisations and groups that aid the patient safety agenda.
- Management and implementation of the Health & Safety Programme of Work/Plan with day to day management of health & safety activities.
- Ensure that Health & Safety strategies, policies and processes are reviewed and updated on a regular basis to ensure they reflect changes and improvements in the national health & Safety agenda, relevant legislation and guidance.
- Act as a role model for working with people who use our services, their families, carers and others as well as staff to create an atmosphere of transparency, openness and candour, leading and chairing relevant groups/meetings as required.
- Responsible for undertaking immediate action, on behalf of the organisation to address health & safety concerns.
- Represent the team and liaise as necessary with other bodies, local authorities and government departments on matters relating to patient safety.
- Escalating concerns regarding health & safety activities, and outcomes from investigations, which identify potential issues for professional competencies and/or conduct
As the Health & Safety Lead you will have worked in a similar role and will have the following skillset:
- Educated to degree level or higher, or relevant experience in the field of health & safety or a related discipline
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Membership of the Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH) at Graduate Level (GradIOSH) Management / Leadership qualification and/or Quality Improvement Qualification is desirable
- Recognised teaching / training qualification is desirable NEBOSH
- National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health is desirable
- Project management qualification or relevant experience is desirable
- Knowledge and understanding of statutory and regulatory, guidance and best practice frameworks requirements for health & safety
Contract Length: anticipated 3 months, with potential to be extended for the right candidate.
Pay Rate: From £21.31 to £24.38 per hour PAYE DOE
