Our client is looking to hire an IT Network Infrastructure Engineer for approximately 3 months.
Summary:
The role of IT Network Engineer is to support and maintain service capability of the Trust’s IT network infrastructure, specifically in the area of Networking, Switching, Routing, Wireless, Switch Cabinets, Firewalls, Cabling, WAN Links, ADSL, Network Performance, Security and Resilience.
The position provides technical expertise across a range of relevant IT networking technologies.
Key Duties:
- Responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the Trust’s network across Medway NHS Foundation Trust and connected sites.
- The role demands the support and development of key solutions to ensure high availability for clinical and business critical systems.
- The Network Infrastructure Team will provide technical support to over 4000 clinical and administrative colleagues using IT services, across multiple sites. This role is both technical and operational and will involve the running of the IT support service to agreed service levels.
- Together with the other IT teams the post-holder will deliver a support facility to support all MFT’s network infrastructure.
- To develop the IT service through continual service improvement striving to improve quality and service levels in line with Trust requirements.
- To research and develop the IT Infrastructure in line with industry best practice.
- To help ensure IT network services and solutions are appropriately and cost effectively designed and implemented to sufficiently support the Trusts clinical and operational capability.
- The post holder will be responsible for managing the IT Network Infrastructure for MFT and MFT customers, ensuring service continuity and network infrastructure security.
- The post-holder is responsible for managing daily activities related to the maintenance and management of IT Network (Hardware/Software/Third Party hosted Services) and is required to understand and cover both server and network infrastructure as the Trust moves to a unified computing methodology.
- The post holder is also responsible for maintaining network management systems, system diagrams, performance levels, specification design, testing of network hardware, development of processes, procedures and management of hardware support contracts
Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of IT standards and system management methodologies
- Good knowledge on Security/VPN’s, MPLS etc
- Good knowledge on network switching & routing in a multi-site environment
- Good knowledge of firewall configuration and management, including firewall security
- Good knowledge of proxy servers
- Thorough understanding of LANS/WANS (P2P vs national Ethernet vs ISDN etc.)
- Basic understanding of server infrastructure technologies including
- VMWare, Active Directory, Clustering and MSSQL.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Excellent written skills for the production of effective operational documentation
- Sound negotiation skills to effect positive and productive outcome Ability to analyse a range of complex Infrastructure issues to effect resolution
- Sound interpersonal communications skills with the ability to use initiative
- Handling complex organisational and customer issues
- Managing the performance of Network infrastructures
- Analysis of data to identify problem areas and implement solutions
- Ability to work proactively under own initiative & take responsibility
- Proven experience of HP and Cisco Network technologies working on high end Core or equivalent
Qualifications:
- Proven experience or qualification in IT Networks
- In addition it is expected that the post holder will have a minimum of 2 years in technical environment
- 1 years demonstrable experience in an enterprise LAN/Wan environment.
- Experience with enterprise wireless networks
