Contract Length: anticipated 9 months
Location: Hybrid – Can be based at either Didcot/Cumbria (Monthly site visits)

Our client is looking to hire a Concept & Optioneering Manager / Quality Engineer – Waste Management.
A Concept & Optioneering Manager is required to Coordinate and control evaluation of disposal concept options as part of feasibility studies and site evaluation.
As the Concept & Optioneering Manager you will have at least five years’ experience working in a similar role and good knowledge of Systems Engineering processes along with experience of implementing optioneering processes.
We are looking for a Concept & Optioneering Manager ideally with nuclear waste management / operating in a nuclear environment.
As the Concept & Optioneering Manager you will have the following responsibilities:
- Coordinate and control evaluation of disposal concept options as part of feasibility studies and site evaluation
- Develop and apply a process for optioneering and evaluation of disposal system concepts at appropriate stages of the implementation programme.
- Provide input to, and respond to outcomes from, the Strategic Waste programme team and disposability assessments.
- Support and facilitate optioneering studies to investigate the options available for the transport and disposal of a range of waste types in a geological disposal facility for various geological settings.
- Support and facilitate disposal concepts evaluations during siting.
- Provide assurance that optioneering studies and concept evaluations are undertaken appropriately and in accordance with approved processes.
- Manage the knowledge base for disposal concepts.
- Specify and co-ordinate work to monitor alternative waste management options.
As the Concept & Optioneering Manager you will have worked in a similar role and will have the following skillset:
- Good 1st degree in relevant subject (engineering or science)
- Appreciation of the requirements for the geological disposal of radioactive wastes and materials
- Good knowledge of Systems Engineering processes
- Experience of implementing optioneering processes
- Ability to facilitate workshops with varied stakeholders and varied viewpoints to come to solutions
- Experience nuclear waste management / operating in a nuclear environment (Desirable)
- Experience of model base system engineering – system architecting background
- Nuclear desirable – need a complex engineering background.
- Infrastructure background (Rail, Defence)
