Hybrid working

A Senior Solicitor, ideally with Social Care/Local Government experience, is required to ensure the councils have access to professional, efficient and high quality legal services that enables and supports the councils to achieve their strategic objectives and priorities within the relevant legal and governance frameworks and fulfil their statutory responsibilities. To support and assist the Head of Legal Services to deliver an efficient, effective and responsive service to clients in relation to all aspects of adult social care law.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide a fully supportive role the Service Director and to the Head of Legal Services in the delivery and improvement of its services and business strategies.
  • Deputise for the Team Leader at relevant meetings as and when required.
  • Represent the Councils as and when required in all adult social care related proceedings.
  • Act as legal advisor in connection with all matters relating to adults and procure external legal assistance when requested by Service Director and/or Head of Legal Services.
  • Manage a busy caseload of complex or high profile adult social care matters and provision of associated legal advice including Court of Protection work, Mental Capacity issues, Ordinary Residence, Charging and Community Care.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to colleagues.
  • Deliver training and workshops for officers and members and updates on changes in the law as appropriate.

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.



  • Social Care/Local Government experience desirable.
  • Extensive post qualification experience in adult social care proceedings.
  • Up to date knowledge in adult social care law.

  • Tact and diplomacy and evidence of persuasion and negotiation at a senior level.

  • Ability to give urgent advice in highly sensitive and pressurised situations.
  • Ability and commitment to work as part of a team and under pressure.
  • Ability to deliver pragmatic and cost effective advice and solutions to clients.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to either own car or a pool car in order to undertake the duties of the role, unless other forms of transport are available and viable to perform the role.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
